ALBANY, Ga. – Albany State's outdoor track & field freshman star earned high honors during the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Sydney Blackburn was named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) and NCAA Division II All-American Second team during the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships
Blackburn received All-American honors in the women's discus. Sydney finished in 12
th place at the NCAA Division II women's outdoor track and field championships on May 27-29 in Allendale, Michigan.
Sydney finished with a 45.53m in the women's discus finals. Sydney is a Pompano Beach, Florida native. She attended Highland Christian High School where she was a highly recruited thrower.
Sydney Blackburn's winning discus throw was marked at 150'04" at the Savannah State Eye Opener on February 27th. With the mark freshman thrower
Sydney Blackburn is now the new school record holder!
The previous record was held by CreAnn Perkins (2013) with a throw of 144'01".
Sydney had an amazing freshman season that concluded at the NCAA Division II women's outdoor track & field championships.
