Young Harris Mountain Lions Collects Weekend Series Victory Over The Golden Rams

ALBANY, Ga. – Albany State University baseball team fell to the 33-ranked Young Harris College Mountain Lions in its non-conference weekend series on February 14-15 at Golden Rams Field.

The Mountain Lions improved to 6-1, while the Golden Rams fell to 5-3.
 
Blake Howell allowed just six hits over seven innings and struck out four for the Golden Rams.
Wilson allowed just five hits over six innings and struck out eight for the Mountain Lions.

Young Harris College opened up a 2-0 lead in the top of the fifth. Brett Hawkins and T.J. Byrd were hit by pitches in consecutive at-bats and later came around to score when Tucker Greer reached on a three-base error by the Albany State left fielder.

The Mountain Lions extended their lead to 3-0 in the seventh. Paul Salata led off with a double to right field and Logan Worley, who was pinch running for Salata, scored on Byrd's two-out single to left.

Albany State got two unearned back in the eighth inning to pull within a run at 3-2, but reliever McLain Harris notched his third save of 2020 with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless work. 

Travis Ray Jr. and Gage Herring led the seven-hit attack with a combined four hits. TJ Thomas and Travis Ray Jr. both had a double in the contest. 
 
In the second game, Young Harris and Albany State traded zeros through seven innings in a pitcher's duel. Malik Barrington allowed just six hits, two walks and five strikeouts in the six innings pitched for the Golden Rams. Kyle Turner allowed just three hits and struck out five over seven innings for the Mountain Lions. 

Young Harris got the offense they needed in the top of the eighth inning against reliever Michael Reddick, Young Harris College started the rally with a walk. Kyle Ayers, who pinch ran for Campbell, moved to second on a passed ball before scoring on Logan Worley's two-out double to center field. Worley had three of the five hits for YHC in the game.

Harris started the eighth inning by recording two strikeouts, before the Golden Rams loaded the bases on three singles. Harris secured the victory by getting the final out on a swinging strike three.

The Mountain Lions used 12 hits to win the opener.

Young Harris took a 2-0 lead in the fifth. John Miller led off with a double to left field before Brett Hawkins homered. The Mountain Lions broke open the game with a five-run seventh inning. Tucker Greer had a two-run double to right field and Oscar Serratos added his third homer - a two-run shot - to give YHC a 7-0 lead. 

Young Harris added its final runs in the ninth to take the victory.
 
In the final game of the series the Mountain Lions took the 1-0 victory after a late rally in the eighth inning. Worley doubled to center field to score the runner. The Golden Rams outhit the Mountain Lions 6-5.
 
The Golden Rams will return to action on Wednesday, February 19 as they host the Hurricanes of Georgia Southwestern University. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
