ALBANY, Ga. (February 19, 2020) - The Albany State University baseball team suffered a 6-5 loss to Georgia Southwestern State University at home this evening.
The Golden Rams fell to 5-5 on the season while the Hurricanes improved to 3-7 on the year. Georgia Southwestern opened the contest plating a run to take a 1-0 lead.
The Blue & Gold opened the bottom of the first inning scoring when senior third baseman Travis Ray singled to left field that scored sophomore center fielder TJ Thomas. One inning later, sophomore catcher Galvin Sloan grounded out to plate junior
Will Barry to take a 2-1 lead. The hurricanes were scoreless in the top of the third inning. The Golden Rams next at bat they plated three runs to advance its lead 5-1.
GSW answered with adding a run in the top of the fifth inning to cut ASU's lead 5-2. The Golden Rams would remain scoreless for the rest of the contest. The hurricanes then plated two runs in the seventh inning to come within one of ASU. Georgia Southwestern then added one run each in the last two innings to secure a 6-5 victory.
ASU finished the contest outhitting GSW 10-8.
TJ Thomas and Travis Ray led the Golden Rams with both going two-for-five at the plate. Ray recorded three RBIs in the contest.
Albany State University will return to action on Friday, February 21
st as they host Palm Beach Atlantic University in a weekend series. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. on Friday.
