ALBANY, Ga.– The Albany State University baseball team allowed big innings of five and four runs Saturday morning as the Golden Rams suffered a 13-3 loss against the Spring Hill College Badgers at Golden Rams Field. The Badgers scored five big runs in the sixth inning and then tacked on four scores to put the game away in the seventh frame.

Albany State moves to 31-19 on the season. This is the first loss for the Golden Rams since opening play at the 2019 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship defeating Morehouse College (18-2) and Kentucky State (9-4).
The Badgers of Spring Hill College was paced offensively by catcher Brennan Fontenot. Fontenot hit a home run in the contest to right field and finished 3-for-5 at the plate with five RBIs and two runs scored.
Spring Hill scored a run in the first inning to strike first and take an early 1-0 lead. The Golden Rams answered in the top of the second inning to tie to game 1 all. ASU when added two runs in the top of the third inning to take a 3-1 lead. The Badgers then scored three more runs in the third inning to garner a 4-3 advantage.
Spring Hill answered with five runs in the sixth and then tacked on four more scores in the bottom of the seventh to make it 13-3.
Albany State was led by Kevin Bryant who had a 1-for-3 performance with one run and an RBI.
Spring Hill's
AJ Fell (3-1) earned the victory. He started Saturday's contest and only allowed six hits in six innings, while striking out seven.
The Golden Rams sent two pitchers to the mound and compiled eight strikeouts, but also allowed six walks.
Malik Barrington (7-4) suffered the loss after allowing nine runs, nine hits, five walks and seven strikeouts.
The Golden Rams will look to keep its hopes alive play for the SIAC Baseball Championship Title was they will face the winner of the Miles College vs. Morehouse College game at 6 p.m. The winner of the 6 p.m. contest will advance to play in the championship game.
