Golden Rams Drops Pair to Georgia Southwestern State University

ALBANY, Ga. – The Albany State Softball team dropped a pair against Georgia Southwestern State University on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.

Kendyl Davis led the Golden Rams in the first contest with going 2 for 3 with one runs scored and one RBI.  

Aryn McGowan picked up three hits in the night cap with a home run and recorded two RBIs. Mikiayah Harris hit a home run.


HOW IT HAPPENED

Game One: Albany State 3, Georgia Southwestern 8

Georgia Southwestern took a three run lead in the first two innings as three hits in the innings sparked the rally.


Jaylyn Norman put the Golden Rams on the board with grounding out to shortstop and plating Aryn McGowan, 3-1. Two errors in the fourth inning pushed the advantage to 6-1 for the GSW. The Golden Rams answered in the fourth inning as Kendyl Davis singled to center field. Lavette Tucker grounded out to shortshop to plate Davis to cut the deficit to 6-2.


Georgia Southwestern extended their lead in the top of the fifth the inning on one run to grow its lead 7-2. Harris scored on a pass ball in the sixth inning to close the gap to 7-3. Georgia Southwest pushed across one more runs in the top of the seventh to securing the 8-3.


 

Game Two: Albay State 7, Georgia Southwestern 8 (eight innings)

Georgia Southwestern posted eight runs in the top of the first inning to take a 8-0 lead. The Golden Rams answered in the bottom of the first with adding four points to cut GSW's lead 8-4. Impressive work offensively and defensively the Golden Rams held GSW scoreless in the remainder of the contest.


Albany State then added a point in the second on a home run by Harris to bring the score to 8-5. In the bottom of the fifth Harris secured another home run for ASU to put the Golden Rams within two, 8-6.


The Golden Rams added its final run of the contest with Aryn McGowan securing an home run for ASU but wasn't enough as Georgia Southwestern slipped away with the 8-7 victory.


The Golden Rams finished the contest with securing three (3) home runs.
