Golden Rams fall to Point University in softball doubleheader

ALBANY, Ga. – The host Albany State softball team fell in doubleheader action to Point University on Wednesday afternoon.  Visiting Point University won the game one 12-1 and then scored four runs in the fourth and sixth innings for a 9-1 win in the nightcap. 
 
ASU finished the games with eight hits, two total runs scored, one double, one home runs and drove in one RBI. Jala Stewart led the way for the Golden Rams going 3 for 3 from the plate with one run. Lavette Tucker finished the contest going 1 for 3.  
 
On the mound, Lauren Lowery tossed a complete game, 12 hitter, allowing nine runs and three walks, while senior Aryn McGowan also pitched a complete game, going seven innings, allowing 11 hits, 12 runs, walked two and struckout five.
 
In the opener, Point University was the first to get on the board as they plated one run in the first inning, as PU capatialzed on an error by the Golden Rams to take a 1-0 lead. The Golden Rams answered in the bottom of the second inning when ASU scored on an error collecting its first and final score of the contest. The visiting Skyhawks then plated 11 runs in the fourth and fifth innings to secure the victory.   
 
Point University brought the same momentum in the second game as they took the early lead in the nightcap on a triple to center field and a single to short stop in the second for a 3-0 lead. The Golden Rams when answered in the bottom of the second when it plated its first and final run on a home run by Jala Stewart. The Skywalks added two run in the third for a 5-1 lead on a homerun by Shea Pendley. PU continued to add four addition runs in the remaining innings of the contest to cruise to a 9-1 victory.
 
Up Next
The Golden Rams will next host Fort Valley State University in a three game Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup starting on Friday, April 19th. The first game is slated for 5 p.m.
