Baseball Takes Weekend Series over Spring Hill College

MOBILE, Ala. – The Albany State University baseball team secured the weekend series victory over host Spring Hill College on April 26-27th at Historic Stan Galle Field. 


Game 1: Albany State 8, Spring Hill 1


Host Spring Hill College Badgers (25-18, 17-5) struggled early, managing just one hit through the first three innings while Albany State University (26-18, 18-1 SIAC) built a 4-0 lead highlighted by a 2-run home run from Quan Dodson.

SHC loaded the bases in the fourth inning with one out, but back-to-back strikeouts ended the hosts threat to chip away at the visitor's lead.

The Golden Rams would tack on four more runs to take an 8-0 lead before SHC recorded a RBI single in the sixth inning to break up the shut out.


Kevin Bryant II went 2-for-3 with one run and 2RBIs.

Roman Oliu (8-3) collected the victory pitching five innings only allowing three hits, two walks and six strikeouts.




Game 2: Albany State 6, Spring Hill 5


The second game of the twin bill saw the host Spring Hill build an early lead in the first four innings, but couldn't secure it eventually falling in an extra inning, 6-5 to the Golden Rams. 

The Badgers jumped out early lead (2-0) behind RBIs from Mason Bonnaffons and Luke Wall in the 1st inning.


SHC added another run in the 3rd inning when John Sklopan recorded a sacrifice fly to center field to score Williams.


Bonnaffons and Williams both recorded RBIs in the 4th inning to push the lead to 5-0.


The Albany State offense came alive from there, scoring one run in the 5th and four runs to tie the game. In the 6th inning, highlighted by a 2-RBI single from Chasen Roulhac.


ASU earned back-to-back walks to open extra innings and Kyle Walker drove in what turned out to be the game-winning run for the Golden Rams as Spring Hill failed to answer back with the Golden Rams securing the victory. 


Michael Reddick started things off for ASU on the mound pitching four innings, allowing only four hits, five runs, four walks and three strikeouts. Cody Chapman recorded the win in 2.0 innings of work allowing two hits, one walk and one strikeout. 
 
Game 3: Albany State 4, Spring Hill 2


Visiting Albany State University (28-18, 20-1) struggled early, managing just two hits through the first three innings while Spring Hill College built a 2-0 lead highlighted by a triple down the right field line and a pass ball.

The Golden Rams would add three runs to take an 3-2 lead before ASU added one more run to  take the 4-2 victory.


Kelvin Wimbish  was perfect at the plate going 1-for-1 with one run. 

Tyler Berry(1-1) collected the victory pitching three innings only allowing one walk and one strikeout.


Game 4: Albany State 5, Spring Hill 4


In the final game of the weekend series saw the visiting Albany State Hill build an early (5-3) lead in the first four innings cruise to a 5-4 victory over SHC. With the victories the Golden Rams clinch the Eastern Division Title.  

The Golden Rams jumped out early lead (3-0) behind RBIs from Dodson-Williams, Travis Ray Jr. and Theo Smith in the 1st inning.


SHC answered in the bottom of the first inning plating two runs to cut ASU's lead (3-2).  

SHC then added another run in the second to tie the game. ASU responded with adding two runs to grow the lead (5-3). Despite a good effort by SHC they added its final run of the contest in the bottom of the fifth inning falling to the Golden Rams 5-4. 

Tre Turner started things off for ASU on the mound pitching four innings, allowing only four hits, three runs, four walks and four strikeouts. Blaylor Galice recorded the win in 2.2 innings of work allowing two hits, one run, four walks and one strikeout.
