ALBANY, Ga. – Albany State University pounded two home runs and 28 hits in a doubleheader sweep over Paine College in a SIAC baseball doubleheader on Friday evening at Golden Rams Field.
Albany State hit one home run in the first game to take a 10-2 victory. The Golden Rams had 15 hits and one addition home run in the second game for a 16-3 victory.
With the victories Albany State improves to 23-17 and 14-1 in the SIAC play. Paine falls to 10-25-1 overall and 3-13 in the SIAC.
Albany State jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
Ernie Reyes secured a home run to bring Johnathan Circullo recording an RBI. Over the next two innings the
Golden Rams added five runs to take a 7-0 lead. Paine answered in the fourth inning adding its only two points of the contest. Albany State then added three more runs in the fifth inning to take the 10-2 victory.
Bring the same momentum into the second game the Golden Rams plated eight runs in the first two innings to take a 8-2 lead. Impressive work by ASU held the Lions scoreless over the next five innings of the contest. The Golden Rams added six runs in the next two innings to grow its lead 14-2. Albany State added its final runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and Lions adding one end the contest 16-3.
Paine managed just nine hits in the second game. Albany State finished the contest with 15 hits.
The Golden Rams will wrap up the four-game series against Paine College on April 20th. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
