COLUMBIA, South Carolina | The Golden Rams traveled to South Carolina on Saturday for a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) matchup with division rival Benedict College.
Trailing by 21 entering the fourth quarter, ASU went on 17-2 run to start the final period to pull within six points of the Tigers with just over a minute to play.Â
After Benedict split a pair of free throws, Ciera Norman drilled a 3-pointer with 20 seconds remaining to make it a four point game.
The Golden Rams forced a turnover but a three from Norman rimmed out with seven seconds remaining.Â
The Tigers netted another free throw to salt away the game, 63-58.
Ashley Johnson had a team-high 18 points for Albany State (7-17, 6-7).
Ay'Anna Bey led Benedict (18-5, 13-0) with 21 points and 16 rebounds.
The Golden Rams are in Augusta on Monday night for a SIAC matchup with Paine College. ASU won the first meeting between the two schools this season, 72-70. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
