ASU SOCCER EARNS FIRST WIN IN PROGRAM HISTORY

Golden Rams Defeat Shorter University 2-1

ROME, GA- The Albany State University women's soccer team made history on Monday night, picking up the first win in program history with a 2-1 triumph over Shorter University.

The win snaps a fourteen game streak the Golden Rams had been on since women's soccer began play at ASU in the fall of 2017.

With the score tied at one apiece in the second half, Marisol Estrada set up Alexus Lawson who nailed a header goal, giving the Rams the go ahead score at the 51:06 mark. ASU's defense held, led by Abby Whiteside who put up five of her seven saves down the stretch to preserve the win.

Jenna Wade accounted for the Golden Rams' first score of the 2018 season with a goal just over seven minutes into the opening half. The Hawks (0-2) tied the game up right before the close of the first half (42:37) on a goal by Kristina Evans.

Albany State held on the win despite getting off only 9 shots (6 on goal) in the contest. Comparatively the Shorter Hawks put up 20 shots, 8 on goal.

The Golden Rams will host their first home game on Friday night at 7pm on West Campus.
