ASU VOLLEYBALL DROPS TWO AT JAGUAR RUMBLE

Golden Rams Suffer Two Losses on the Road

AUGUSTA- The Albany State University volleyball team suffered setbacks in their first contests of the season at the Jaguar Rumble hosted by Augusta University.
 
The Golden Rams fell to the host Jaguars in three sets and later encountered a three-set sweep at the hands of the University of Montevallo.
 
In the season opener, the Jaguars topped ASU 25-18, 25-16, 25-7. Savanna Gonzales paced Augusta University with 9 kills, two assists and a solo block.  The Jaguars displayed a stingy defense at the net with four total team blocks, including four solo stops from Chloe Allen. Allen also put up a seven-kill effort for Augusta who finished the contest with 37 kill against 10 errors.
 
The Golden Rams were led by Jannai Cheeks who finished with a team highs of 5 kills and 10 digs. She also notched two service aces for Albany State.
 
Against the Montevallo Falcons freshman Jordyn Terrell led the way with a team best 7 kills however the Golden Rams dropped three straight 25-15, 25-13, 25-10.
 
The Falcons tallied 35 kills for a .304 hitting percentage while the Golden Rams totaled 20 for a .022 clip. Brioni Dixon and Brie Blume led Montevallo with 9 and 8 kills respectively. Blume finished a solid all-around performance adding 4 aces, 2 assists and 15 digs for the outing.
 
Albany State will return action August 31- September 1 at an Invitational hosted by Valdosta State University.
