GOLDEN RAMS DROP PLAYOFF OPENER TO TAMPA

ASU Falls to Losers Bracket, Set to Face Mississippi College

LAKELAND, FL- The University of Tampa cruised to a 12-2 win over Albany State University in game two of the NCAA South Regional Tournament at Historic Henley Field Friday afternoon.

The Golden Rams will look to rebound when they face off against Mississippi College in an elimination game later this evening. Weather permitting the contest is slated to begin at 6pm.

Meanwhile the Spartans (40-9) advance to take on Delta State who upended Mississippi College 13-3 in the first game of the Regional which spanned two days due to a rain delay.

The Spartans jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after a 2RBI double in the second followed a two-run homer by Harrison Bragg in the bottom of the first inning. The Golden Rams got on the scoreboard in the third when Nic Griggs' two-out single up the middle drove in Kelvin Wimbish from second base. In their half of the inning, the Spartans responded with a lead-off homer from Drew Ehrhard and scored three more off three hits and two critical ASU errors.

Tampa got its third homer of the day to start off the fourth and by the close of the inning, UT had stretched their lead to a 12-1 advantage.

ASU's other run came when Tyler Morris touched home off an RBI single by Chasen Roulhac in the seventh.

The Spartans doubled up the Golden Rams in hits on the afternoon 16-8. Cooper Krug was credited with his first win from the mound this season while Michael Reddick's overall record slips to 7-2. CLICK HERE to follow the games at tournament central via either live stats or video stream.
