GOLDEN RAMS FALL TO MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE 6-2

ASU Baseball Wraps Season at NCAA Regional

LAKELAND, FL-After what equated to a three-day delay, the Albany State University Golden Rams were ousted from the South Region with a 6-3 loss to Mississippi College Monday morning at Tiger Town.

Although the conditions were less than ideal, the Golden Rams put forth a valiant effort, placing runners in scoring position in their last at bat. In the bottom of the ninth, Lawrence Hyde hit a lead-off single and later took second on a wild pitch. He held his base when Chasen Roulhac followed with a single to center, prompting a pitching change for Mississippi College.

With the count full, the Choctaws turned a critical double play which moved Hyde over to third base. Riliani Familia then drew a walk but the game ended when Tommy Taborda got Nic Griggs to strike out swinging.

The Golden Rams wrap the 2018 season at 28-18 overall while MC moves on to face Nova Southeastern in the next elimination game of the regional.
The contest was originally slated for last Friday but was pushed back until Saturday at a new location, Tiger Town (Publix Field at Joker Merchant Stadium) the spring training home of the Detroit Tigers. The Choctaws jumped out to a 3-0 lead after scoring a run in the top of the second and then added two more in their half of the third. In the bottom of the inning Nic Griggs picked up an RBI single through the right side, scoring Chasen Roulhac from second base. MC expanded their lead with another score in the fourth before Roulhac's RBI groundout to third base plated Ryan McClendon.

The game then had to be halted due to weather with the Choctaws in front 4-2.

The teams were scheduled to resume play on Sunday but unfortunately several rain delays stopped them from returning to the diamond until 10am Monday morning.

The layoff seemed to affect both teams as the fifth and sixth innings only yielded one hit, a one out double from Luke Yancy in the top of the fifth. The Choctaws padded their lead in the seventh; first a SAC fly from Hunter Wilson scored a run and Yancy collected his second double of the day to drive in Blaine Crim for a 6-2 advantage.

In the bottom of the seventh the Golden Rams got a SAC RBI from Riliani Famila to cut into ASU's deficit.
