GOLDEN RAMS SQUEEZE PAST GEORGIA SOUTHWESTERN 6-5

ALBANY- The Albany State University Golden Rams edged Georgia Southwestern University 6-5 in non-conference baseball action Wednesday evening at West Campus Field.

In the fourth inning, back to back bases loaded walks proved to be the difference in the ASU's one run victory. With the bases juiced and the Canes in front 5-4, Georgia Southwestern sent Jared Donaldson to the mound in relief of Stewart Tyler with two out in the bottom of the fourth inning. Tyler Morris and Ryan McClendon then drew consecutive walks to give Albany State the lead at the close of the inning.

Neither team would score the rest of the way as the Golden Rams picked up their ninth non-conference win of the year.

Jordan Griffin pitched three complete innings to earn his first win of the season and Trey McMillan got his third save of the season. McMillan moved from first base to the mound fanning two and getting a fly out in the top of the ninth to seal the win.

The Canes put up two hits in their first at bat and got an RBI single from Jason Baita for an early 1-0 advantage. ASU responded with a run in the bottom of the inning when Johnathan Cirulo scored on a single from Riliana Familia.

The Canes and Rams both scored a run in the second but ASU pulled ahead in their half of the third when McMillan's single to left field drove in Tyler Morris.

The Golden Rams (15-13, SIAC 6-3) will hit the diamond again April 6-7 in a three game SIAC series against Claflin University in Orangeburg, SC.
