BASEBALL SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER WITH CLAFLIN UNIVERSITY

Saturday’s Series Finale Rained Out In the Third Inning

ORANGEBURG, SC- Albany State University and Clalfin University split the first two games of an SIAC doubleheader on Friday at Mirmow Field.

On Saturday, the final game of the three series set was called in the third inning due to rain.

The Panthers defeated the Golden Rams 5-2 in eight innings and ASU rebounded to squeeze past Claflin 8-7 in game two.

With two on in the bottom of the eighth, Johnathan Parnell hit a walk off home to right center giving the Panthers a 5-2 win in extra innings. In the previous inning, ASU pulled ahead 2-1 when Trey McMillan began the seventh with a home run to left field. Claflin rallied back to tie the game when a throwing error in right field scored Darrell Langston from second base extending the action to an extra inning.

The game was scoreless through three and half until the second of four ASU errors on the afternoon (second error in the fourth inning) led to an RBI single from CU's Clyde Parker.  The Golden Rams tied the game at one apiece when Riliani Familia scored on Nic Griggs' sac fly to right field.

In game two, the Golden Rams scored two runs in their final at bat for an 8-7 triumph. Quantico Dodson-Williams doubled and then advanced to third when Lawrence Hyde grounded out to second base. Chasen Roulhac reached with an RBI single, stole second and was driven in on triple from McMillan.

Facing a three run deficit (7-4), the Rams began their rally by scoring two in their half of the sixth. Perhaps a foreshadowing of what was to come in the seventh, Trey McMillan hit a triple to score Roulhac and Familia later doubled to plate Kelvin Wimbish from second base.
