ASU SOFTBALL DROPS TWINBILL TO NOVA SOUTHEASTERN

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL- The Albany State University softball team suffered two losses at the hands of Nova Southeastern University Tuesday evening at AD Griffin Field.

The Sharks even their record at 12-12 overall taking game one 8-3 and the nightcap 8-2 while the Golden Rams fall to 3-13 on the season.

In game one the Sharks were ahead 4-3 through five and a half, but put up four runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to take game one. A sacrifice bunt moved runners over to second and third before a fielder's choice and a wild pitch led in two runs for Nova. The Sharks then got back to back RBI singles to close out the inning with the 8-3 advantage.

Lavette Tucker's first of two RBI on the afternoon drove in Jade Williams in the top of the third. Her second came via a triple in the Rams' half of the fifth inning to score Danielle Turner.

Jala Stewart led off the top of the 4th inning with a solo home run, her first of the year.

The Sharks scored a run in all but one inning to take the nightcap 8-2. Nova jumped out to a 2-0 lead by the close of the first inning and added a run in the second, third and fifth innings to take a 5-1 edge.

Megan Shepherd hit a single to right field in the top of the sixth to trim ASU's deficit to 5-2, but the Sharks scored three more to bookend the game and complete the doubleheader sweep.

The Golden Rams will open up conference play with a three game series at Benedict College March 10-11 in Columbia, SC. Game time is scheduled for 1pm on both days.
