ASU Takes Two in SIAC Openers

COLUMBIA, SC- Albany State University opened up SIAC play with two road wins over Benedict College Saturday afternoon at Tiger Field.
The Golden Rams earned a 12-9 victory in the opener and turned in a dominating performance in game two, trouncing the Tiger 30-10 in five innings. Over the two games ASU combined to put up an astounding 30 hits including 7 home runs. In the game two blowout, five Golden Rams collected at least 3 RBI while
Brianna Murillo who leads ASU in home runs, added to her season total by hitting two out of the park.

The Golden Rams trailed 3-1 until Mikyah Harris smacked a three run homer in the top of the third to put ASU back in front 4-3. ASU held the lead temporarily at the start of the contest when an RBI single from Murillo scored
Jade Williams from second base for a 1-0 advantage.
The Tigers responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at one apiece.
Benedict put up a run in the third but ASU scored seven runs over their next two at bats, including five in the top of the fifth inning.
Demeshia Russell's RBI scored Harris from second and later Williams smacked a 2 RBI double to center field for a 10-4 advantage.
Jala Stewart wrapped the Rams' scoring in the inning with a RBI single to right field.
The Tigers attempted a rally, scoring three in the fifth and two more runs in the sixth, but ASU added an insurance run in top of the seventh to seal the win.

In game two, the Golden Rams blew the contest open with a 16 run barrage in the fourth take a 30-10 victory in five innings.
Murrillo had 2RBI homers in the first inning and third innings,
Danielle Turner put forth 3RBI home run in the second, while
Lavette Tucker and
Jala Stewart both collected homers in the fourth. Tucker's drove in two while Stewart bookend the scoring outburst with a grand slam. The Tigers also committed 5 errors in the Rams' half of the fourth inning.
ASU led 24-5 after four complete and added 6 more runs in the top of the fifth.
The Golden Rams will return to action on March 16-18 at the SIAC softball crossover in Jasper, Alabama. Â
