SOFTBALL COMPLETES WEEKEND SWEEP OF BENEDICT COLLEGE

COLUMBIA, SC- Lavette Tucker put up a double and two home runs as the Albany State University Golden Rams completed a three game series sweep of Benedict College with a 12-8 win Sunday at Tiger Field.

The Golden Rams have now opened SIAC with a 3-0 mark heading into this weekend's conference crossover where they will face off against all the teams in the western division.

Jala Stewart hit a 2RBI double and then later scored off a double from Mikyah Harris and ASU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. After the Tigers put up a run in their half of the second, the Golden Rams scored three more in the third. Tucker led off the inning with a solo shot to center field and later Stewart and Harris both came in on a wild pitch and the Rams held a 6-1 lead.

Benedict (10-5, SIAC 0-3) fought back to trail 10-8 going into the seventh but Tucker put the game away with a 2RBI homer to left center to close out the game.

Taylor Clemens picked up a win in her first start of the season for ASU while Taylor Roberts fell to 5-2 as a starter, going seven complete innings for the Tigers.

The Golden Rams will begin play at the SIAC crossover beginning Friday with Lane College at 11am.
