SOFTBALL REMAINS PERFECT IN SIAC PLAY; SWEEPS SERIES WITH CLAFLIN

ALBANY-The Albany State University softball team completed the series sweep over Claflin University, taking both games of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Rams fought off a Panther rally in Saturday's opener edging the Claflin 10-9 before taking a 12-7 triumph in game two.

By virtue of their 3-2 win over Claflin on Saturday, the Golden Rams remain unblemished in the SIAC this season, sporting a 10-0 record in conference play and pull their over record to an even 14-14.

After trailing the entire contest, the Panthers used a five run outburst in the top of the fifth inning to take their first lead of the game. Through four complete innings, Claflin trailed the Golden Rams 7-4 but got an RBI single from Chelise Morman and 2RBI homers from both Jada Ames and Kayla Cato to move in front of ASU 9-7.

The Golden Rams got a bases loaded walk in their half of the fifth and added to runs in the bottom of the sixth to retake the lead and secure the win.

Jordan Baranello then doubled to drive in a run and later Danielle Turner hit a single to score Baranello and Demeshia Russell.

The Golden Rams, who scored three in the first and added two more runs in the second, held the Panthers scoreless through the first four innings. Lavette Tucker accounted for ASU's first three runs of the game with a 3RBI homer in her first at bat.

Albany State will host the University of North Alabama in a non-conference doubleheader on March 28th. Game time is scheduled for 1pm.
