TIGERS RALLY TO STUN GOLDEN RAMS 9-8

Benedict Denies ASU of Series Sweep

ALBANY- Benedict College rallied from behind to take a 9-8 win over Albany State University Sunday afternoon at West Campus Field.

The Tigers trailed by three runs through seven complete innings, but scored two runs each in of their final two at bats to take the one point victory.

With one out and runners on second and third, Skyler Sabado singled to right field to score a run and later Fate Young grounded out to the pitcher, driving in Christopher Harper. With those two runs the Tigers cut their deficit to 8-7.

In the top of the ninth, Benedict continued the rally when Armando Valentin hit an RBI double to right field, momentarily tying the game at 8 all. Valentin then scored the go ahead run when Harper hit a deep fly to right field.

In the bottom of the inning, two walks bookended a sac bunt by Kelvin Wimbish which advanced Chasen Roulhac to second base. After Riliani Familia drew his second intentional walk of the game, the Golden Rams had runners on first and second with one out. Tyler Morris struck out looking and pinch hitter Ben Greenstein flew out to right field to end the ball game.

Albany State opened the game with a 3-0 lead when Familia hit a three run homer in the bottom of the first inning.

The Rams had several chances to pad their lead over the Tigers but failed fo convert. ASU had three consecutive innings where they stranded three and wrapped with game with a total of 15 runners left on base. ASU also spotted Benedict (9-9, SIAC 3-3) three runs in the top of the fifth by committing two errors in the inning.

The Golden Rams (11-12, SIAC 3-3) will look to rebound when they travel to play Columbus State on Tuesday in Columbus, Georgia. Game time is scheduled for 5pm.
