COLUMBUS STATE TOPS ASU BASEBALL 14-10

COLUMBUS- Columbus State University got off to a fast start and held off a late Albany State rally to defeat the Golden Rams 14-10 Tuesday evening at Burger King Stadium.

After trailing 14-6 deficit at the end of six, the Golden Rams put up four runs in the top of the seventh inning. With a runner in scoring position, Ryan McClendon began the ASU rally with an RBI single up the middle. Trey McMillan then drew a walk and following a successful bunt by Avery Roth, the Rams had the bases loaded with no outs.

The Cougars got the first out of the seventh after Jarrod Little struck out Lawrence Hyde. Chasen Roulac then came through with a single to plate McClendon and two batters and an out later Riliani Familia hit a single to center field to drive in two more runs for the Golden Rams.

ASU would load the bases again in the inning after Tyler Morris was hit by a pitch and granted first base. The Cougars went to the bullpen for the third time in the seventh and Jalen Latta got Nic Griggs to fly out to right field and wrap the inning.

Neither team allowed a hit over the rest of the way and only two players, one from each squad, reached via a walk.

The Cougars, ranked the #11 team in NCAA Division II, charged out to an early lead in the bottom of the first. Up by three runs, CSU capped the inning when Drew Webb hit a bases clearing triple down the left field line for a 6-0 advantage.

The Golden Rams climbed back in the game, scoring three in the top of the fourth and two more in the fifth, making the score 8-6 in favor of CSU. The Cougars responded with some much needed cushion by scoring four runs in their half of the fifth.

With the win, Columbus State moves their overall record to 23-5 on the season.

ASU will return to action in with a three game series at Clark-Atlanta University March 30-31st.
