ARGONAUTS OUTLAST GOLDEN RAMS 15-10

March 20, 2018

ALBANY- The University of West Florida held off a late rally from Albany State to capture a 15-10 win over Albany State Tuesday night at West Campus Field.

West Florida scored three runs in the top of the ninth to secure the win and lift their record to 17-9 overall.

Offense was not lacking in Tuesday's game as the two teams combined would combine for 30 hits. The Argonauts got home runs from Nic Strasser, a 2RBI dinger in the top of the fourth and Nick Kerkmann, who hit a two-out solo shot in UWF's first trip to the plate.

By the end of two complete innings, West Florida led ASU 5-0.

The Rams finally got on the board with a SAC fly from Kelbin Wimbish and an RBI single from Nic Griggs in the bottom of the third inning. West Florida would again distance themselves from the Golden Rams, putting four runs on the board in the fourth and two in the fifth to take a 11-4 advantage.

ASU cut into the Argo's lead when Tyler Morris went yard to score two runs in the bottom of the fifth. The Golden Rams then placed Jordan Griffin on the mound and he retired the three straight to put the Rams back at the plate. ASU responded with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut their deficit to two runs (11-9).

In the seventh with runner on, Strasser got his second hit of the evening, a double that brought in Mason Dinesen. ASU scored its final run of the game when Ryan McClendon drove in Riliani Familia with a double to right center in the bottom of the eighth.

West Florida and Albany State will wrap their two game series tomorrow when they square off at 2pm at West Campus Field.
