BASEBALL SPLITS SIAC OPENER WITH KENTUCKY STATE

Rams Take Game One, Drop Nightcap in Extra Innings

March 16, 2018

ALBANY- The Albany State University baseball team opened their SIAC schedule with a doubleheader split against Kentucky State University on Friday afternoon.
The Golden Rams got a 1-0 shutout in game one before dropping a 3-2 decision in extra innings in the nightcap.

ASU's record now stands at 9-8 overall and 1-1 in SIAC play.

Albany State 1 Kentucky State 0

Michael Reddick turned in an impressive performance in the Rams 1-0 shutout in game one. Behind some solid defense from his teammates, Reddick went the distance, striking out six in route to his second win as a starter this season.

KSU pitcher Joe Crisp also had a solid outing holding the Rams to just two hits in the game, which only took an hour and a half to complete
The only run of game one came in the Rams' half of the second inning when Ryan McClendon's sacrifice fly to right field scored Tyler Morris from third base.

Kentucky State 3 Albany State 2 (8 innings)

The Thorobreds got a 2RBI double in the top of the eighth to earn a 3-2 win and a split of Friday's doubleheader.

Cameron Sparks' second double of game two proved to be the go ahead run in KSU's win.

The Golden Rams were held scoreless through five and a half innings. They final got on the board when Riliani Familia, who led the inning off with a double though the left side, scored from third on a wild pitch. Nic Griggs, who advanced to third on the errant pitch, was then driven in on Trey McMillan's double to tie the game.
The Rams got the tying run on in their half of the eighth but pinch hitter Ben Greenstein flew out to center field to end the game.

Albany State and Kentucky State will wrap the weekend series tomorrow with a nine inning game beginning at 11am at West Campus Field.
