ASU Rams Win First Home Game of the Season

February 5, 2018

ALBANY- The Albany State Golden Rams shook off a slow start to defeat to the Paine College Lions Monday night at West Campus Arena.

Monday's victory was the first win at home for the Golden Rams this season and also gave them their first sweep of an SIAC opponent this year. The Rams dominated Paine in a 74-49 triumph on January 22nd in Augusta.

The Lions exploded out of the gates, opening the contest on an 11-0 run while the Golden Rams misfired on their first three shot attempts and committed two turnovers in the game's opening minutes. ASU finally got on the board via the free throw line, with two shots apiece from Jayson Snearl and Jared Harrington. The Rams got their first basketball from the field at the 16:17 mark courtesy of a jumper from Jonathan Henderson. That score prompted a 14-4 run by ASU who scored on their next seven offensive trips to take a 34-22 lead with 6:40 left in the first half.

ASU ended the first half shooting 57% from the floor and with a 44-36 lead. They finished the game shooting at a 52% clip and outrebounded the Lions (4-18, SIAC 3-12) 44-31.

Henderson led the Rams with a team high 15 points off the bench.

The Rams maintained a double digit advantage after the 17:37 point of the second half, and seized their largest lead of the game, 70-52, with 9:42 left in the game.

ASU will travel to take on rival Fort Valley State this Saturday in Fort Valley, Georgia. Game time is scheduled for 8pm.
