GOLDEN RAMS TAKE 76-68 TRIUMPH OVER FORT VALLEY

FORT VALLEY, GA-The Albany State University Golden Rams held off a late rally from Fort Valley State for a 76-68 win Saturday night.

With 16:50 left in the contest, the Rams had what appeared to be a comfortable 20-point cushion 43-23, after Rahdin Hughes converted a three-point play.

The Wildcats (12-13, SIAC 9-8) then orchestrated an 18-9 run, cutting the Rams' lead to one after a three-pointer by Jaylon McMillian with 8:57 to go. ASU responded with a 10-2 spurt, pushing their lead back to ten, 65-55, on a Jared Harrington layup.

Fort Valley took ASU's lead under double digits on two more occasions until Michael Green hit his third and final three-pointer of the night with 1:10 left for a 70-60 score. ASU iced the game by converting 4-6 free throws in the final minute.

The Rams shot 45% overall from the field and despite being outscored by eleven in the second half, fired at a 48% clip over the final 20 minutes.
Three of ASU starters tallied double figures; Green finished with 16 points, Rahdin Hughes had 15 while Randy McClure chipped in with 10. Tyler Walker contributed 12 points off the bench for the Golden Rams.

Like the women's game that preceded them, the home team took an early lead with the first bucket of the contest, only to have the Golden Rams reel off a run to take control of the game.

Jared Harrington's offensive rebound and put-back at the 12:12 mark capped an 11-3 run that gave ASU its first double digit advantage of the game 17-7. ASU would continue its hot shooting and behind back to back three-pointers from Jayson Snearl and Green, the Rams extended their lead to 32-13 with 5:11 left till the intermission.

The Golden Rams would hold 38-19 advantage at halftime.

Jamaal Garror scored a game high 23 points in a losing effort for Fort Valley.

The Rams will host Senior Day on Monday at 7:30pm when they welcome Miles College to West Campus Arena.
