February 12, 2018
ALBANY- The Albany State University sent their two seniors, Jayson Snearl and Rahdin Hughes, out in style as the Golden Rams ran away with a 72-57 victory over Miles College Monday night at West Campus Arena.
In what amounted to a total team effort the Golden Rams have now won four straight and five of their last six outings.
Tylen Walker gave the Rams a double digit lead with a jumper at the back end of an 8-0 run at the 13:58 mark of the opening half. ASU's lead would balloon to twenty with 43 seconds left in the half but two free throws by Miles' Robert Jones made the score 41-23 at the break.
Albany State shot an efficient 50% from the field, including five made threes in the first half.
The Golden Bears (6-17, SIAC 5-11) managed to chip away at ASU's lead, cutting the deficit to nine, 45-36 with 13:49 to go, but the Rams swung momentum back in favor, answering with a 9-0 run. The closest Miles would get the rest of the way was 70-57 with 1:18 left in the game.
The Golden Bears got 15 second half points from Sheldon Wright who finished with a game high 20 points off the bench. Michael Green finished with a team high 18 points for Albany State. Randy McClure and Tylen Walker put up 10 and 12 points respectively.
The Golden Rams will host one more home game, a stand-alone contest against Tuskegee University on February 23rd, but will first travel for two road contests at Morehouse (February 17th) and Clark-Atlanta (February 19th).
