February 17, 2018

ATLANTA- The Morehouse Maroon Tigers maintained their position at the top on the SIAC East with a 76-63 win over Albany State University on Saturday afternoon at Forbes Arena.

The two teams will meet up again in ASU's regular season home finale on February 23rd in Albany.

As for Saturday matchup the upstart Rams, who had won four straight and five of their last six games, went point-for-point with the nationally ranked Tigers, and even held a five point lead with 5:20 to go in the first half. Tylen Walker's three pointer at that mark made him the first half's high man with 10 points.

With 1:28 before the break, Morehouse pulled the game even at 32 all on a layup from Tyrius Walker. ASU got two free throws from Aaron Washington to put the Rams back in front but Jordan Wallace countered with a three pointer right before the half ended and the Tigers took a 35-34 lead into the locker room.

Morehouse open the second half with a quick 9-2 run to put ASU down 44-36 at the 14:56 mark. A few possessions later a three point play by Jason Snearl cut the Rams' deficit to six, 49-43, with 12:59 remaining. The Maroon Tigers then captured their first double digit lead with a 7-0 spurt, expanded on a three pointer from Jordan Wallace for a 56-43 score.

A dunk by Donall Tuff with 6:53 left cut the ASU deficit to nine, 65-56 until another quick burst from Morehouse pushed the lead back to double digits. The Tigers put up 41 second half points, including five three-pointers, while the Rams were held to 29 points on 38% shooting. That in comparison to the first half where Albany State shot a sizzling 51% from the floor.

Walker finished with 14 points to lead the Golden Rams while Tyrius Walker topped all players with 22 points for Morehouse who improves to 22-1 and 16-1 in the SIAC.
