AMERICUS, Ga.– The Albany State women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision against Georgia Southwestern despite a valiant effort by the Golden Rams on Wednesday evening.
Albany State fired three shots and corner kick before Ga. Southwestern struck first in the ninth minute of play. Alisa Barr found Alison Rugel to put the Lady Canes on the board, 1-0.
Marisol Estrada attempted two corner kicks for the Golden Rams in the 10
thminute of play before Ga. Southwestern went up 2-0 when Ella Hawkins scored on a penalty kick in the 21
stminute.
Hawkins followed up with another goal three minutes later with an assist from Michelle Gustavsen. Both squads played tough defense for the remaining 20 minutes and the Lady Canes would head into the locker room with a 3-0 advantage.
Abby Whiteside had three saves to start the second half, not allowing Ga. Southwestern to increase their lead any further.
Haley Kincheloe scored her first goal of the season for the Golden Rams with an assist from
LeFaren Donaldson in the 61
stminute of play to chip away at Ga. Southwestern's lead.
Albany State would take another three shots on goal, all deflected by Hannah Morrone.
Both goalies ended the game with six saves apiece.
Next up, the Golden Rams will host Springhill College (Ala.) Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 4:00 p.m.
