Poor Shooting Leads to Home Loss for Golden Rams

ALBANY- Fort Valley State University earned a 69-52 win over the Albany State University Golden Rams Saturday afternoon at West Campus Arena.

James Barnes posted game highs in points and rebounds with a double-double of 19 and 14. Tyler Edwards finished the day with 15 while Walter Foster put up 11 points to round out FVSU's double figure scorers.

The Wildcats move to 10-11 overall and 7-6 in SIAC play.

For their turn, Fort Valley held the edge over Albany State with a dominating performance on the glass. The Wildcats out-rebounded the Golden Rams 58-33, including 20 offensive boards that led to a 21-9 advantage in second chance points.

In the first half ASU faced a 15 point deficit at the 7:31 mark but battled back to cut Fort Valley's lead to 29-21 at the intermission. The Wildcats opened the second half, and essential put the game out of reach, with a 21-6 run to take a 50-30 lead with 11:01 left in the game.

The Golden Rams struggled offensively most of the afternoon, shooting just 27 % overall. And though their spent a substantial amount of time at the free throw line, ASU was unable to cash in, making only 14 of their 28 attempts in the contest.

Michael Green led the way for Albany State with 15 points off the bench.

ASU will return to action on Monday when they travel to Augusta, Georgia to face Paine College. Game time is slated for 7:30pm.
