Golden Rams drop two games to Kentucky State

FRANKFORT, Ky.- The Albany State baseball team couldn't capture the SIAC East Division title on Saturday. Needing only one win to seal the number one seed, ASU lost a pair of games to Kentucky State by the scores of 3-2 and 5-4.
              
With the losses, the Golden Rams fall to 16-28 overall and 14-6 in the SIAC. The Thorobreds improve to 16-31, 11-8.

After four scoreless innings, Kentucky State scored the game's first run in the bottom of the fifth inning. ASU didn't find its offense until the top of the seventh.
 
In the stanza, Jonatan Galan hit a single to right field to score Kelvin Wimbish. Theo Smith added another single that sent Ryan McClendon home, and Albany State led 2-1.
 
However, KSU scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to tie the score and send the game into extra innings. The Thorobreds scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth.
 
Albany State collected four hits, three errors and five runners left on base. Tristan Rice was the losing pitcher.

Albany State took the lead in the top of the second inning. Terrence Worthy's sacrifice fly allowed Theo Smith to score for a 1-0 lead.
 
In the third inning, Wimbish scored off a wild pitch to give the Golden Rams a 2-0 edge. KSU scored three runs in the bottom to take a 3-2 advantage.
 
Albany State was able to tie the game in the fourth inning. Wimbish's single allowed Jeremy Arrington to score and tie the game at three.
 
ASU regained the lead in the seventh inning when Jonathan Cirullo scored off Robbie Feagans' single. However, the Golden Rams 4-3 lead was short-lived. Kentucky State scored two runs in the bottom to take the victory.
 
Feagans led the team with three hits. Albany State recorded 13 hits, three errors and 10 LOBs. Brandon Pearson was the losing pitcher.
 
The two teams will complete the three-game series on Sunday, April 30. A win by ASU will give the program its second straight SIAC East title and the number one seed for the upcoming league tournament. Game time is set for 12 p.m. (CST).
