Golden Rams drop home contest to Georgia Southwestern

ALBANY, Ga.- After beating Georgia Southwestern 10-7 in extra innings in Americus on March 7, Albany State fell victim at home in the closely contested rematch. ASU made a rally late in the game, but it eventually lost 7-4.
 
The Golden Rams drop to 16-25 overall, while the Hurricanes improve to 19-27.
 
After Georgia Southwestern scored its first run in the first inning, ASU didn't get on the scoreboard until the bottom of the third. Bryant Prather scored off a wild pitch to tie the score at one.
 
In the top of the fourth, the Hurricanes scored three runs to build a 4-1 edge. The visitors added another run off a passed ball to build a 5-1 advantage. Jonatan Galan smashed a solo homerun in the bottom of the sixth to cut Albany State's deficit to 5-2.
 
The Golden Rams were able to cut their deficit to one in the seventh inning. Lawrence Hyde and Prather each scored runs to make the score 5-4.
 
In the top of eighth, GSW went ahead 7-4 after a two-run homer. ASU could not push anymore runs across the plate to complete the comeback.
 
Albany State recorded five hits, two errors and five runners on base.
 
Albany State will play its final home contest on Wednesday, April 26. The Golden Rams will face Auburn-Montgomery, which defeated ASU 9-4 on April 12. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
