Golden Rams drop home contest to Armstrong State

ALBANY, Ga.- The Albany State baseball team saw its three-game winning streak end after a close game with Armstrong State University. ASU lost to the Pirates 10-8 on Tuesday evening.
               
The loss gives the Golden Rams a 14-23 overall record, while Armstrong improves to 19-22.
 
Albany State opened the game with a run in the first inning. Jonatan Galan hit a single up the middle to score Chasen Roulhac for a 1-0 lead.
 
In the top of the third inning, the Pirates scored six runs to take a 6-1 edge. ASU used the bottom to score two more runs. Galan scored off an error, and Robbie Feagans' single to right field scored Ryan McClendon and make the score 6-3.
 
The Golden Rams tied the game in the sixth inning. Roulhac belted a single that scored Quantico Dodson-Williams and Theo Smith, who had earlier hit a single. Galan added another single that allowed Roulhac to score and tie the game at six.
 
In the top of the seventh, the Pirates regained the lead at 8-6 with two runs. ASU cut the deficit to one when Smith scored another run. Two more runs by the visitors in the eighth generated a 10-7 score.
 
The Golden Rams scored another run in the final stanza, but it could not overtake the Pirates.
 
Galan was 4-for-5 with two RBIs to lead Albany State, and Dodson-Williams also went 4-for-5. Roulhac and McClendon each had two hits and two RBIs, and Kelvin Wimbish added two hits. Michael Davis was the losing pitcher.
 
The Golden Rams collected 16 hits, no errors and 10 runners left on base.
 
Mike Warrant led Armstrong State with four hits and two RBIs, and Sam Goberhan was the winning pitcher.
 
The Pirates had 18 hits, two errors and 10 LOBs.
 
Albany State will return to action April 22-23 when it travels to Augusta, Ga. to face Paine College.  The two teams will battle for first place in the SIAC East Division. Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. The game on Sunday will also start at 1 p.m.
