Golden Rams sweep Paine in doubleheader

ALBANY, Ga.- The Albany State baseball team seized control of the SIAC East Division with a pair of Saturday wins. ASU defeated Paine College 9-2 and 11-10 (eight innings) to take sole possession of the division.
 
The Golden Rams improve to 16-23 overall and 14-3 in league play. Paine falls to 19-18, 10-7.

Albany State opened the game by claiming an early lead. In the first inning, Chasen Roulhac scored the first run, and Ryan McClendon's triple down the right field line sent Jonatan Galan home. McClendon later scored, and ASU led 3-0.
 
After a scoreless second inning, the Golden Rams added to their lead in the third. Theo Smith's double to right center scored two runs, and he went home to five Albany State a 6-0 edge.
 
Paine scored its two runs in the bottom of the sixth, but ASU added some insurance runs in the top of the seventh. Quantico Dodson-Williams tripled to add two runs, and he scored off Lawrence Hyde's sacrifice fly to end the scoring.
 
Galan, McClendon, Smith and Hyde each recorded two hits for Albany State. Dodson-Williams had three RBIs. Tristan Rice (5-2) was the winning pitcher.
 
The Golden Rams had 10 hits, no errors and six runners left on base.

After Paine took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, ASU scored a run in the following three inning to build a 3-2 edge. In the fifth, McClendon's double and a homerun by Galan ignited a four-run inning that gave the visitors a 7-2 advantage.
 
Albany State added three runs in the top of the sixth inning. Galan singled to score a run, Robbie Feagans' single brought in two more scores, and ASU led 10-2.
 
However, Paine College made a rally in the bottom of the seventh. The Lions scored eight runs to tie the score at 10 and send the game into an extra inning.
 
In the extra session, Feagans hit a sacrifice fly to center field that scored McClendon for the winning run.
 
Feagans finished with four hits, and Galan added three more. Roulhac and McClendon had two hits apiece. Feagans also recorded four RBIs. Calvin Tatum (2-1) was the winning pitcher.
 
The two teams will meet again on Sunday, April 23 at 1 p.m.
