Golden Rams beat Morehouse in doubleheader

ALBANY, Ga.- The Albany State baseball team honored seniors Bryant Prather, Jonatan Galan, Jeremy Arrington and Terrence Worthy and picked up a pair of wins over Morehouse. ASU beat the Maroon Tigers on Saturday 5-3 and 6-3 to win the weekend series 3-0.
 
The Golden Rams are now 14-22 overall and 12-3 in the SIAC. The team is currently first in the SIAC East Division ahead of Paine College. Morehouse falls to 6-27, 2-10.

Morehouse opened the first inning with an early run. Albany State took the lead for good in the bottom of the second. Kelvin Wimbish hit a single to score Quantico Dodson-Williams and Theo Smith. Nicolas Griggs followed with a double to score two more runs, and ASU led 4-0.
 
The Golden Rams added another run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Smith singled to right field and sent Jonathan Cirullo home for a 5-1 edge.
 
Morehouse rallied in the seventh inning with two runs, but it wasn't enough get past the home team.
 
Griggs, Smith, Galan and Chasen Roulhac all had two hits for Albany State. Wimbish and Griggs also had two RBIs. Tristan Rice was the winning pitcher.
 
The Golden Rams collected 10 hits, one error and seven runners left on base.
 
Zachary Lowe and Xavier Floyd each had three hits for Morehouse. Daron Bowling was the losing pitcher.
 
The Maroon Tigers recorded 11 hits, one error and nine LOBs.

After Morehouse scored two runs in the top of the first, Albany State cut the lead in half when Jeremy Arrington hit a single to score Wimbish.
 
ASU continued its scoring in the next two innings. In the second, Worthy's single ignited a stanza that saw the Golden Rams scored three runs for a 4-2 advantage.
 
In the third, Dodson-Williams and Chasen Roulhac produced singles that led to runs, and Albany State led 6-2. Morehouse scored another run in the fourth inning, but it wasn't enough to overtake the home team.
 
Roulhac, McClendon and Arrington each had two hits for Albany State, who had 10 hits, two errors and eight LOBs. Eden Payano was the winning pitcher.
 
Albany State will return to action on Tuesday, April 18 when it hosts Armstrong State University. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
