Golden Rams defeat Morehouse to open series

ALBANY, Ga.- The Albany State baseball team ended a two-game losing streak and opened a three-game SIAC with a win. ASU beat Morehouse College 13-3 on Friday night.
 
With the loss, the Golden Rams improve to 12-22 overall and 10-3 in the SIAC. Morehouse falls to 6-25, 2-8.
 
Albany State opened the game with four runs in the first inning. Ryan McClendon's hit scored Nicolas Griggs for a 1-0 lead. Galan followed with a double that allowed Griggs to go home, and McClendon scored off Robbie Feagans' single. Theo Smith added another single, and Galan scored to give ASU a 4-0 edge.
 
In the second inning, Griggs belted a two-run homer to give Albany State a 6-0 advantage. Morehouse scored three runs in the top of the fourth to cut its deficit to 6-3.
 
The Golden Rams answered the visitors' rally in the bottom. ASU used timely hits to generate four runs and built a 10-3 lead. The home team extended its advantage in the sixth with three more runs. The game ended in the seventh inning due to the 10-run rule.
 
Griggs finished the game going 3-for-3 with two RBIs, and Galan was 3-for-4. Feagans and Smith each had three RBIs. Tyler Wilcher was the winning pitcher.
 
The Golden Rams collected 12 hits, two errors and five runners left on base.
 
The Maroon Tigers had five hits, three errors and five LOBs. Anthony Dodd was the losing pitcher.
 
The two teams will meet again on Saturday, April 15 for a doubleheader that will begin at 1 p.m.
