Golden Rams lose to Florida Tech at UNG

DAHLONEGA, Ga.- The Albany State baseball team found hits and runs hard to come by on Friday afternoon. ASU could muster much offense and eventually lost to Florida Tech 10-2. The game was played at the University of North Georgia.

With the loss, the Golden Rams remain winless on the year and are now 0-9 overall. Florida Tech improves to 9-3.

To open the game, Florida Tech scored three runs in the top of the first inning and another one in the second to build an early 4-0 lead. Albany State got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning when Ryan McClendon went home courtesy of a FIT error.

The Panthers added three more runs between the third and fourth inning to build a 7-1 advantage. In the bottom of the fourth, McClendon hit a home run over the right field wall to cut ASU's deficit to 7-2.

However, Florida Tech would secure its lead by generating runs in the fifth and sixth inning to keep Albany State from creating a solid rally.

The Golden Rams only recorded one hit for the game and committed one error.

Florida Tech was led by Daniel Szpik, who recorded two hits and three RBIs. Reid Neal and Capella each added two hits. The Panthers had 14 hits and committed one error.

Albany State will play Quincy University on Saturday, Feb. 24 in the tournament at UNG. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
