Lady Rams remain winless after second loss to Lander

ALBANY, Ga.- The Albany State women's softball team created a battle for Lander during the first inning, but the game got away from it after the stanza. ASU dropped its second contest to Lander University in the Cougar Classic by the score of 13-3.
 
The Lady Rams are now 0-7 overall after their third defeat in the tournament hosted by Columbus State University. The team lost to Lander on Saturday 2-0. Lander improves to 2-5.
 
After falling behind 3-0 in the first inning, ASU rallied back into contention with its opportunity at bat. Danielle Turner hit a double to right field to score Jade Williams, who had earlier belted a single to the shortstop. Turner later scored on a wild pitch to cut Albany State's deficit to 3-2.
 
The Lady Bearcats used the top of the second inning to put some distance between themselves and the Lady Rams. LU scored five runs during that time for an 8-2 advantage. Two more runs in the top of the third gave Lander a 10-2 edge.
 
Albany State began its second rally in the bottom of the third inning. Jala Williams singled to left field, which allowed Turner go home and make the score 10-3. However, that was as close as the Lady Rams could get. Lander added three runs in the top of the fifth inning for a 13-3 lead. ASU could not score any runs in the bottom of the stanza, and the game ended with the eight-run rule.
 
Stewart recorded three hits and an RBI to lead Albany State. Turner had two hits and an RBI. Tiffany Massey (0-3) was the losing pitcher.
 
The Lady Rams collected eight hits, committed three errors and left five runners on base.
 
Lander was led by Madison Moore, who tallied two hits and four RBIs. Destiny Klyde added two hits. Brianna Surrento (1-2) was the winning pitcher.
 
Albany State will return to action later today when it faces tournament host Columbus State. CSU won Saturday's matchup 10-2. Game time is set for 5 p.m. Fans can watch the game live at
