Lady Rams claim first win of the season against Columbus State

COLUMBUS, Ga.- After eight contests during the 2017 season, the Albany State women's softball team finally found the winner's circle. ASU defeated Columbus State 3-1 in the final game of the Cougar Classic.
 
The Lady Rams are 1-7 overall after their victory, while CSU falls to 6-4.
 
The game began with three scoreless innings, and Albany State seized the lead in the top of the fourth inning. Malea Maye belted a homerun to give ASU a 1-0 edge. The Lady Rams added two more runs in the sixth inning. Jade Williams hit a single to left field that scored Toni Coleman. Then, Danielle Turner's double sent Lavette Tucker home, and ASU had a 3-0 advantage.
 
Columbus State scored its only run in the bottom of the seventh inning, but it wasn't enough overtake the visitors.
 
Maye and Williams each had two hits and an RBI to lead Albany State. Coleman also had two hits. Aryn McGowan (1-3) was the winning pitcher for the Lady Rams, who collected eight hits, committed one error and left 11 runners on base.
 
The Lady Cougars had five hits, committed one error and left four players on base. Darby Demarest (1-2) was the losing pitcher.
 
Albany State will return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 14 when it hosts Valdosta State University for a doubleheader. Game times are set for 3 and 5 p.m.
