Kentucky State Notches First Win of the Season

FRANKFORT, KY- Kentucky State University came from behind to defeat Albany State University 83-69 Monday night at the Exum Center.

Rahdin Hughes and Tylen Walker both contributed 21 points in the setback for ASU.

The Golden Rams opened the game on a 7-0 and held the lead until the Thorobreds fought back to tie the game at 25 with 9:18 left in the first half. On their next possession, KSU took their first lead of the game courtesy of a three-pointer from Chase Harvey only to have Albany State reclaim the lead with a 10-5 run and a 38-32 advantage with 5:28 left before intermission.

Kentucky State converted a three point play to cut the Rams' lead to 40-39 with 2:37 left in the first half. The Thorobreds then capitalized on four Ram turnovers and closed the half on an 8-0 run to take a 47-40 lead into the locker room.

Turnovers proved to be the Achilles heel for the Golden Rams in the contest, particularly in the first half where Kentucky State scored 19 points off of 13 first half ASU turnovers.  KSU also shot 15 of 22 from the free throw line in the first half.

The Golden Rams cut their deficit to 53-50 with 14:56 on a layup by Jared Harrington but KSU responded with a quick 6-1 run to push the lead back to double digits.
Reggie Breeden was one of five Thorobreds in double figures with 17 points.

Albany State will return home Thursday as they will play host to Claflin University. Game time is scheduled for 7:30pm at West Campus Arena.
