GOLDEN RAMS FALL TO WEST FLORIDA IN SEASON OPENER

PENSACOLA, FL- The University of West Florida placed three players in double figures as the Argonauts toppled Albany State University 77-68 Saturday afternoon.
DJ Thorpe led all scorers with a game high 20 points, Den Moter chipped in with 11 points and Darryl Tucker scored 17 off the bench for the Argonauts.
West Florida shot 51% for the game including a blazing 59% from the field in the first half. Despite their opponents' hot shooting, the Golden Rams fought back from an eleven point (31-20) deficit down the back stretch of the first half. An offensive rebound and put-back by
Aaron Washington with 1:50 left trimmed ASU's deficit to four, 33-29. West Florida scored a quick six points, capped by a 3-pointer by from Cameron Cox in the final seconds and the Argonauts held a 39-31 lead at the break.
Led by 12 points from Tucker, the Golden Rams were outscored in bench points 21-8 in the first half.
In the second half, Albany State trailed by just five after a tip-in by
Rahdin Hughes but the Argonauts responded with a 10-2 run to take their largest lead of the contest, 67-54 with 4:45 remaining. One last burst by ASU cut West Florida's lead to six with 30 seconds left, but the Argonauts sealed the win at the free throw line.
Hughes and
Napoleon Harris both notched double digits for the Golden Rams with 16 and 10 points respectively.
