Golden Rams split doubleheader with Claflin

ALBANY, Ga- After dominating the Claflin Panthers in the first game of the three-game series, Albany State allowed a potential second win to get away from them. ASU blistered Claflin 13-4 in the first contest before falling victim 5-3 in Game 2.
 
With the split, the Golden Rams are now 12-30 overall and 10-4 in the SIAC. Claflin owns marks of 18-25, 11-6.

Albany State began its scoring parade in the bottom of the first inning. Bryant Prather hit a double to score Trevor Billings for a 1-0 lead. Galan added a sacrifice fly that sent Kelvin Wimbish to home plate, and the Golden Rams held a 2-0 edge. Prather later stole home for a 3-0 advantage.
 
In the second inning, ASU built their lead to 4-0. Sage Sammons scored off Wimbish's single to account for the run. Claflin scored two runs in the top of the third inning to trim its deficit to 4-2.
 
During the fifth inning, the Golden Rams started to put away their guests. Highlighted by homeruns by Cody Fleck and Quantico Dodson-Williams and a double by Wimbish, Albany State scored six runs in the stanza to take a commanding 10-2 lead.
 
ASU added a few insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Dodson-Williams belted a single to score Fleck to build an 11-2 edge. The team added two more runs for a 13-2 advantage.
 
Wimbish was a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate and recorded four RBIs. Prather, Fleck and Dodson-Williams each collected two hits. The Golden Rams had 12 total hits and committed three errors. Tyler Wilcher (2-4) was the winning pitcher.

After the Panthers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, Albany State didn't score until the bottom of the fourth inning. Fleck hit his second homerun on the day to score Galan and himself to give ASU a 2-1 edge.
 
However, in the top of the seventh inning, the Golden Rams allowed four runs to fall behind 5-2. The team could only manage one run in its turn at bat.
 
Fleck recorded two of the team six hits. DaMarkus Green took the mound loss.
 
Albany State and Claflin will compete in the third game of the series on Sunday at Golden Rams Park. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
