ORANGEBURG, S.C.- Bryant Prather recorded a game-high four hits to lead the Albany State baseball team to a 10-9 win over the Claflin Panthers. With the victory, the Golden Rams win the weekend series 2-1, which is also identical to its current SIAC conference record. ASU is now 3-20 overall. Claflin falls to 8-19, 1-2. The two teams engaged in a high-scoring game in the second inning. Juan Vidal hit a single to score Cody Fleck and Prather for a 2-0 lead. Payton Dixon added another single that sent Kelvin Wimbish home for a 3-0 edge. Trevor Billings belted a double, and Dixon and Vidal made the score 5-0. Another run by Billings courtesy of Reise McDaniel’s single gave the Golden Rams a 6-0 advantage. Claflin scored five runs of its own in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 6-5. In the top of the fifth inning, Prather recorded a homerun to give Albany State a 7-5 lead. The Panthers answered with another run, and ASU led 7-6 after the inning. Another run by Claflin in the bottom of the sixth produced a tie at seven runs apiece. The Golden Rams would take the lead for good in the top of the seventh inning. Wimbish smashed a double to score Prather and Galan for a 9-7 advantage. Wimbish later scored on a passed ball, and ASU led 10-7. Claflin scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to challenge the Golden Rams, but Brian Winn struck out a Panther batter with two runners in scoring position to end the game. The Golden Rams recorded 10 hits and committed two errors for the game. Eden Payano (1-0) was the winning pitcher, and Winn (1) was credited with the save. Albany State returns to home on Tuesday, Mar. 15 when it hosts Armstrong Atlantic State University. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Golden Rams Baseball slips past Claflin

ORANGEBURG, S.C.- Bryant Prather recorded a game-high four hits to lead the Albany State baseball team to a 10-9 win over the Claflin Panthers. With the victory, the Golden Rams win the weekend series 2-1, which is also identical to its current SIAC conference record. ASU is now 3-20 overall.
