Golden Rams drop overtime decision to archrival Fort Valley State

ALBANY, Ga.- Sophomore center Lance Dixon recorded 13 points, seven rebounds and three steals, but the Albany State Golden Rams could not win their second consecutive game. ASU kept the game close, but its cold shooting from the field led to a 66-63 overtime loss to the Fort Valley State Wildcats.

The defeat drops the Golden Rams record to 4-18 overall and 3-11 in the SIAC. FVSU improves to 5-19, 3-11.

Albany State started the game in quick fashion. The team sprinted to an early 8-0 lead before Fort Valley State used a 9-0 run to take a 9-8 edge at the 12:53 mark. The two teams exchanged the lead the rest of the half before intermission arrived with the game tied at 28.

In the second half, the Wildcats built a nine-point advantage, 37-28, at the 16:22 mark. A 16-5 run over the next six minutes put the Golden Rams ahead 46-43 after Khaliq Hughes made his first three-pointer of the night.

Trailing 58-55 with 1:43 left in regulation, Michael Green scored a basket to cut ASU's deficit to 58-57. After a Wildcat miss, Michael Green tied the game with a free throw at the one-minute mark. A Wildcat turnover provided Albany State with an opportunity to win the game, but Hughes' three-point attempt missed the mark, and the game went into overtime.

In the extra session, the Golden Rams rigid shooting continue. After Hughes tied the game at 60 with a pair of free throws, Fort Valley State's Marcelis Hansberry made a three-pointer to give the Wildcats the lead for good with 3:45 left. ASU didn't tally again until Hughes hit a three-pointer at the final buzzer.
Earl Farnum finished the game with 11 points and six rebounds, and Hughes added 10 points and five rebounds. Green had eight points and led the team with nine rebounds.

The Golden Rams shot 21-of-69 (30.4%) from the field, 4-of-24 (16.7%) from three-point range and 17-of-27 (63%) from the free throw line.

Dareial Franklin led Fort Valley State with game-highs of 21 points and 13 rebounds. Ralph Wilson added 13 points and seven rebounds.
