Golden Rams toppled by Miles College

FAIRFIELD, Ala.- Devontay Ward scored 16 points and pulled down six rebounds, but the Albany State Golden Rams lost to Miles College 80-61 in an SIAC contest. With the loss, ASU falls to 4-19 overall and 3-12 in the SIAC. Miles improves to 15-10, 13-3.
 
Albany State fell behind early in the first half and could not recover. With almost nine minutes expired off the game clock, the Golden Rams trailed 18-6. When intermission arrived, ASU trailed 38-25.
 
In the second half, Albany State made an early push to get back into contention. An 8-0 run capped by a Jordan Floyd three-pointer cut the Miles advantage to 38-33 at the 16:25 mark of the stanza.
 
However, the Golden Bears answered with a 9-0 run of their own to push their lead back to double figures at 47-33 with 14:14 left in regulation. Albany State fell behind by as many as 25 points with 4:54 remaining.
 
Floyd added 13 points and seven rebounds for Albany State. Jayson Snearl narrowly missed a double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds.
 
The Golden Rams shot 25-of-77 (32.5%) from the field, 3-of-18 (16.7%) from three-point range and 8-of-16 (50%) from the free throw line.
 
Maiscei Grier led Miles with a game-high 22 points. Nathan Sheffield had 13 points, and Joshua Samuels added 12 more.
 
Albany State will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 13 when it travels to Tuskegee, Ala. to face the Tuskegee University Golden Tigers. ASU won the initial meeting 70-56 on Jan. 30. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m. (central time).
