Golden Rams beat FVSU in season finale

FORT VALLEY, Ga.- Jordan Floyd scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Albany State Golden Rams to 72-59 victory over archrival Fort Valley State. With the win, ASU snaps a four-game winning streak and finishes the regular season with a 5-21 overall record and 4-13 in the SIAC.
 
Fort Valley State, which beat the Golden Rams 66-63 on Feb. 6, falls to 6-21, 4-13.
 
Albany State trailed for most of the first half. Its only lead came when Khaliq Hughes scored to give the team an 18-17 edge at the 12:06 mark. However, the Golden Rams still trailed 30-27 at halftime.
 
At the 16:29 mark of the second half, Earl Farnum's layup gave ASU the lead for good at 36-35. Almost seven minutes later, the Floyd made two free throws to give the Golden Rams a 49-37 edge. Hughes gave the team its biggest lead (71-56) with a pair of free throws with 1:05 left in the game.
 
Michael Green and Farnum each recorded double-doubles for Albany State. The former had 15 points and 13 rebounds, and the latter added 12 points and 12 rebounds. Hughes netted 14 points and pulled down six rebounds.
 
The Golden Rams shot 27-of-61 (44.3%) from the field, 2-of-14 (14.3%) from three-point range and 16-of-18 (88.9%) from the free throw line.
 
Ralph Wilson led FVSU with 17 points, and Dareial Franklin added 11.
 
Albany State will begin postseason action during the 2016 SIAC Men's Basketball Tournament, which will be held Feb. 29-Mar. 5. The tournament will be held at Bill Harris Arena in Fairfield, Ala. Seedings and pairings will be announced on Friday.
