Michael Green
Birmingham, Ala.- Freshman Michael Green scored a team-high 19 points, but the Albany State Golden Rams could not overcome a frigid night from the free throw line. ASU was 12-of-28 from the charity stripe, which led to an 88-80 loss to Lane College in the first round of the 2015 SIAC Men’s Basketball Championship Tournament. With the loss, Albany State (the SIAC East 6th seed) ends its season with a 5-22 overall record. The Dragons (#3W) are now 17-12 overall and will move on to the second round where they will face the winner of Morehouse College (#2E) and Central State (#7W). Although Albany State never led during the game, the team was able to remain in striking distance of the Dragons. After a fast-paced first half, the Golden Rams only trailed 50-40 at halftime. In the second half, Lane’s Rodney Clarke hit a jumper to give Lane a 67-51 lead at the 12:04 mark. ASU continued to stay in contention for the rest of the half. Green nailed his second three-pointer of the night to cut the deficit to 82-77 with 57 seconds left. Albany State had an opportunity to cut into the lead again, but misfiring from the free throw line negated a potential comeback. Lane was able to make a few gratis tosses of their own down the stretch to put the Golden Rams away. Devontay Ward finished the night with 16 points and five rebounds. Jordan Floyd added 14 points, and Keldreion Miller had 11 points and five rebounds. Senior Earl Farnum played his final game for Albany State. He had five points and seven rebounds. The Golden Rams shot 31-of-66 (47%) from the field and 6-of-17 (35.3%) from three-point range. Brandon Zackery led the Dragons with 19 points.
