ALBANY, Ga.- After a basket put them behind, the Albany State men’s basketball team had an opportunity to snatch a win from defeat. However, a controversial ending diminished ASU’s chances for victory, and the Golden Rams lost a 69-68 heartbreaker to the Auburn University-Montgomery Warhawks. With the loss, ASU has its two-game winning streak snapped and falls to 4-5 overall. AUM improves to 2-9. Albany State and Auburn-Montgomery engaged in a close contest the entire night. After the teams exchanged the lead nine times in the first half alone, ASU trailed 26-24 at halftime. In the second half, the Golden Rams were able to build a 45-39 edge after Khaliq Hughes scored a basket at the 13:21 mark. The Warhawks regained a 52-51 lead after Julius McCoy made a three-pointer with 8:50 left to play. For the final minutes of the game, the two teams continued to swap the lead until the dramatic final seconds. Trailing 65-64 with 57 seconds remaining, Devontay Ward made two free throws to give ASU a 66-65 advantage. Nine seconds later, Desmond DeRamus made two free throws to put AUM up 67-66. With 29 seconds left in regulation, Ward’s layup gave the Golden Rams a 68-67 lead. However, DeRamus made a shot of his own to put the Warhawks back in front at 69-68 with eight seconds left. Michael Green has an opportunity to come down to win the game. He was fouled bringing the ball up and court, but no call was made. Green turned the ball over to end the game in controversial fashion. Ward led Albany State with 18 points and 11 rebounds, and Brandon Hudson had 18 points and six rebounds. Khaliq Hughes added 13 points and five assists. Green led the team with 13 rebounds and six assists. The Golden Rams shot 28-of-71 (39.4%) from the field, 2-of-of 14 (14.3%) from three-point range and 10-of-15 (66.7%) from the free throw line. DeRamus finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds for Auburn-Montgomery. Julius McCoy had 11 points and Marcus Jackson and Darrion Taylor each added 10 points. The Warhawks shot 25-of-64 (39.11%) from the field, 6-of-23 (26.1%) from three-point range and 13-of-18 (72.2%) from the free throw line. Albany State will return to action Dec. 17-18 when it participates in the L.S. Epps Memorial Scholarship Basketball Challenge. The Golden Rams will face Livingstone College at 4 p.m. on Saturday and Shaw University on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Golden Rams fall to AUM in final seconds

ALBANY, Ga.- After a basket put them behind, the Albany State men's basketball team had an opportunity to snatch a win from defeat. However, a controversial ending diminished ASU's chances for victory, and the Golden Rams lost a 69-68 heartbreaker to the Auburn University-Montgomery Warhawks.
 
With the loss, ASU has its two-game winning streak snapped and falls to 4-5 overall. AUM improves to 2-9.

The Golden Rams shot 28-of-71 (39.4%) from the field, 2-of-of 14 (14.3%) from three-point range and 10-of-15 (66.7%) from the free throw line.
 
DeRamus finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds for Auburn-Montgomery. Julius McCoy had 11 points and Marcus Jackson and Darrion Taylor each added 10 points.
 
The Warhawks shot 25-of-64 (39.11%) from the field, 6-of-23 (26.1%) from three-point range and 13-of-18 (72.2%) from the free throw line.
 
Albany State will return to action Dec. 17-18 when it participates in the L.S. Epps Memorial Scholarship Basketball Challenge. The Golden Rams will face Livingstone College at 4 p.m. on Saturday and Shaw University on Sunday at 2 p.m.
