Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Golden Rams defeated by Georgia College

ALBANY, Ga.- The Albany State men's basketball team could not extend its win streak to two games. After trailing by a large amount for most of the first half and then generating a rally that fell short, ASU eventually lost to the Georgia College Bobcats 63-49.

With the loss, the Golden Rams drop to 1-3 overall. GC improves to 3-2.

Albany State fell behind early in the first half and was blitzed by the visiting team in a hurry. At the 14:00 mark, the Golden Rams trailed 18-5. With 4:46 left in the half, ASU's deficit had grown to 31-12, and it appeared Georgia College was ready to run away with the contest.

However, ASU made a run over the latter part of the half and the first part of the second stanza to get back into contention. Albany State finished the first half on a 14-0 run ignited by their own defensive pressure to cut the Bobcats' advantage to 31-26 at halftime.

In the second half, Khaliq Hughes recorded a three-point play to bring ASU closer at 31-29 with 17:16 left to play. Brice Booker put Georgia College ahead 33-29 with a layup on the next possession, but Hughes answered with a three-pointer to make the score 33-32 with 15:39 left in the game.

The Bobcats used a run of their own to pull away from Albany State. Leading 39-35, GC went on a 10-1 run to push their edge back to double figures. ASU went cold from the field and couldn't generate another rally to secure the victory.

Devontay Ward recorded his second double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds. He also had five assists and two blocks. Michael Green added 11 points, five rebounds and two blocks.

The Golden Rams shot 16-of-51 (31.4%) from the field, 5-of-22 (22.7%) from three-point range and 12-of-20 (50%) from the free throw line. The team also recorded a season-high nine blocks.

Georgia College was led by the hot-shooting Mark McCorkle, who led all scorers with 19 points, 15 of which came off three-pointers. The Bobcats shot 23-of-65 (35.4%) from the field, 6-of-17 (35.3%) from three point range and 11-of-20 (55%) from the free throw line.

Albany State will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 26 when it hosts Point University at ASU HPER Gymnasium. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
