Green’s hot-shooting leads Golden Rams past Point University

ALBANY, Ga.- Sophomore guard Michael Green scored a career-high 28 points, including 6-of-11 from three-point range, to lead the Albany State men's basketball team to a 96-82 victory over Point University. With the win, ASU improves to 2-3 overall, while the Skyhawks fall to 1-8.
 
After opening the contest with dunk by Khaliq Hughes, the two teams battled each other in a close contest until Albany State made a run to pull away in the first half. Led by Green's torrid shooting and holding 28-25 edge, ASU used an 11-4 run to take a 41-29 advantage with 5:07 left in the stanza. A three-pointer by Brandon Hudson put the Golden Rams ahead 51-35 at the 1:50 mark. The team led 52-41 at halftime.
 
In the second half, Albany State built a 71-54 lead at the 13:05 mark when Virgil Fields converted a three-point play. ASU held its biggest lead of the game, 96-75, with 1:20 left to play.
 
Hughes scored 13 points and dished out eight assists, and Hudson added 14 points, four rebounds and four steals. Green also had five rebounds and four steals.
 
The Golden Rams shot 36-of-66 from the field (54.5%), 10-of-23 (43.5%) from three-point range and 14-of-22 (63.6%) from the free throw line.
 
Dmitri Reaves led Point with 21 points and five rebounds. Dedrick Turner tallied 18 points and Joshua Tolbert netted 17 points.
 
The Skyhawks shot 23-of-53 (43.4%) from the field, 7-of-21 (33.3%) from three point range and 29-of-36 (80.6%) from the free throw line.
 
Albany State will return to action on Thursday, Dec. 1 when it hosts LeMoyne-Owen College for its SIAC conference opener. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
