Golden Rams pick up first home win against Tuskegee

ALBANY, Ga.- Devontay Ward was dominate inside and scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Albany State Golden Rams to a 70-56 win over the Tuskegee University Golden Tigers. The victory produces ASU's first home win of the season and snaps a three-game losing streak.
 
Albany State improves to 4-17 overall and 3-10 in the SIAC. Tuskegee falls to 10-8, 6-5.
 
The teams engaged in a low-scoring affair in the first half, but Albany State was able to gain the advantage by the stanza's end. Trailing 21-18 with 2:00 left, the Golden Rams got late baskets by Ward and Khaliq Hughes to build a 24-21 edge at intermission.
 
Albany State used a key second half run to pull away from the Golden Tigers. Leading only 26-21 at the 19:37 mark, ASU used a 20-10 run over the next seven minutes to build a 46-31 lead.
 
The cold-shooting Golden Tigers could never make a serious run at the home team. Albany State used timely baskets and solid free throw shooting down the stretch to complete the contest.
 
Floyd finished with 18 points, five rebounds and five assists. Khaliq Hughes added 12 points and five rebounds.
 
The Golden Rams shot 24-of-51 (47.1%) from the field, 4-of-13 (30.8%) from three-point range and 18-of-22 (81.8%) from the free throw line. ASU held Tuskegee to 30.5% shooting for the game.
 
Camden Foster led Tuskegee with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Kevin May and Elijah McMillan added 10 points apiece.
 
Albany State is idle until Saturday, Feb. 6 when it hosts archrival Fort Valley State University at ASU HPER Gymnasium. Game time is slated for 8 p.m.
